Why we built DNK

DNK was founded in 2020 to bring institutional-grade infrastructure to real estate technology. Having managed portfolios and capital markets across Asia-Pacific for global financial institutions, our team experienced the friction of fragmented data firsthand. We didn’t just build another software tool; we engineered a solution from the perspective of the investor, designed to delete the operational bottlenecks that hold portfolios back.

Matthew Shampine

As Co-Founder and CEO of DNK, Matt brings over 16 years of proptech innovation and institutional real estate scaling to the platform. His background in real estate infrastructure began in 2010 when his software development agency built WeConnect, the proprietary platform powering WeWork’s global operations. He later served as an APAC Managing Director for WeWork, launching its footprint across Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Australia, before stepping in as General Manager to spearhead WeWork Korea’s rapid growth. At DNK, Matt has channeled this expertise into active market solutions. Through its subsidiary, dnk Labs, his team develops a residential real estate PMS that automates workflows for over 20,000 units in Korea. Additionally, DNK invested in and helped launch Tokyo’s flexible-living platform, Reframe Five, further deepening the firm’s hands-on asset expertise.

Takashi leads DNK Japan from Tokyo. He has spent twenty-five years investing in Japanese real estate, most recently as Head of Real Estate and Alternatives for DWS, Deutsche Bank’s asset manager, where he sat on the firm’s APAC investment committee. Before DWS he was a managing director at PAG, helped establish Fortress Investment Group’s real estate business in Japan, and was a director in Credit Suisse’s real estate private equity group.
